I Suck

I thought it would be a good idea to join one of those photograph critiquing sites.  I think it may have been a mistake.  I'm finding out that my photos are not as good as I thought they were.

Ugh.

Jess and I have decided that we are absolutely taking a class though.  Egads I hope it helps!

February's First Snow

February's first snow was NOT a disappointment.  As a matter of fact, I don't remember a prettier snowfall.

Watermarks

After editing and reediting yesterday's post, trying to get sidebars to align with photos and spaces in between the photos somewhat uniform, I am NOT going back and adding watermarks.  In the future, I will.  As for yesterday's photographs, they are mine, copyrighted by me and you shouldn't, under fear of 35 USC 101... or whatever it is, steal them.  Well, not unless you send me money, then it would be cool.

Cheating? Art? Photography?

With the invention of imaging editing programs like PhotoShop, where do you draw the line between cheating, art and photography.

Back in the olden days, if you took a photograph with your trusty 35mm, you noted the film speed, aperture opening, etc. etc. This was a true photograph. This was photography. There was no editing (unless you had your own darkroom).

With the digital cameras of today and the editing programs, you can take a so-so photograph and turn it into something special. You can adjust the exposure. You can crop. You can find one little spot, zoom in, enhance. You can also take a photograph and turn it into something that barely resembles the original.

So, I ask again. Is this cheating? Is this true photography? Or, is it art?

This is one of those photos that I call true photography. There are no changes made, no enhancements, nothing. This is the photograph as captured.

This is the original. The picture is a little drab, a lot of background that takes you eyes away from the cheetah.

This is the same photograph. The colors are more vibrant. The background has a shading that brings your eyes right to the cat. Framing completes the picture. Is this still photography?

This is the original of another untouched photograph.

The exact picture from above, but edited with a 'neon' and 'red' options in a photo editing program.

Thoughts?

Pot Calls the Kettle Black

It turns out that the tripod isn't dysfunctional, I am!
